Basilica PalladianaPalladian Basilica: This historic building was originally constructed in the 15th century, when it was designed by Domenico da Venezia. When the double tier of porticos and loggias collapsed the project was given to Palladio who started work on it in 1549 and continued to work on it for the rest of his life. Once the seat of the Council of Four Hundred and the centre of public life in Vicenza, the basilica today hosts important art and architecture exhibitions.Piazza dei Signori, Vicenza.

Palazzo del CapitanioPalazzo del Capitaniato: built in 1571 on a design by Andrea Palladio. It was originally the official residence of the capitanio, the representative of the Venetian Republic. Despite the fact that the palazzo is incomplete, it is still considered one of the pinnacles of Palladio’s career. In 2007 it was home to the Football World Cup on tour, which had been won that year by Italy. Today the Palazzo is the seat of the town council. Piazza dei Signori, Vicenza.

Teatro OlimpicoOlympic Theatre: this splendid monument, designed by Palladio in 1580, is also theoldest enclosed theatre in the world. Its structure imitates that of the classic Greek and Roman theatres and, owing to its grandeur, it is particularly suitable for staging tragedies. Visiting hours: from 29th August the theatre can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 5pm, unless closed for special reasons. Piazza Giacomo Matteotti, Vicenza.

Chiesa dei Santi Felice e FortunatoChiesa dei Santi Felice e Fortunato: this beautiful example of a Pre-Romanic basilica was originally built in the 4th century and was extended and embellished in the 5th century to house the relics of the martyr brothers Felice and Fortunato. After the partial collapse of the building in 1117, it was extended further. In the 9th century the Benedictine order made it an important religious centre, and it remained such until the Napoleonic invasion at the beginning of the 19th century. Basilica di MontebericoBasilica of Monteberico: Construction of the imposing sanctuary of Monte Berico began in 1428, and it is composed of two parts, a gothic part and one in neoclassical and baroque style. According to popular tradition, the building was erected in just three months following the apparition of the Virgin Mary to a Vicentine peasant girl.
Visiting hours: it is advisable to visit the Sanctuary between 2.30pm and 4pm so that you do not disturb the religious services. Viale 10 giugno, Monteberico, Vicenza.

Villa La RotondaLa Rotonda: conceived by Palladio as the country residence of Count Paolo Almerico, this villa is the Vicentine architect’s masterpiece. The symmetrical style, classical inspiration and its harmonious relationship with the landscape has made it an architectural model which has been imitated all over the world.
Visiting hours: the gardens are open from 15th March to 4th November from Tuesday to Sunday, 10am-12 noon and 3pm to 6pm. The villa itself can be visited from 15th March to 4th November only on Wednesdays, 10am to 12 noon and 3pm to 6pm. Via della Rotonda 45, Vicenza.

Villa Valmarana ai NaniVilla Valmarana ai Nani: Commissioned by Giustino Valmarana and realised during the 18th century, the villa has a cycle of frescoes which are the most beautiful in Veneto, painted by Giambattista Tiepolo and his son Giandomenico. The paintings depict epic scenes and scenes from daily rural life. You must not miss the stunning Italian Gardenwith the stone dwarfs.

Dorsale BericaDorsale Berica: travelling along the panoramic road which starts from Monteberico and crosses the Berico Hills and many small villages the visitor can enjoy truly unique views. The Berico Hills offer a cross-section of country life of another age, with the Valle dei Mulini in Mossano, the Fimon lake, vast orchards of cherry trees and vineyards. In this area you can taste typical wines such as the Cabernet Sauvignon, and enjoy local dishes such as frog risotto and bigoli (large spaghetti) with duck sauce or peas.
